A Domestic EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is an assessment of the safety and condition of the electrical installations in a residential property. The purpose of an EICR is to ensure the electrical systems are safe and comply with current regulations, in line with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.

C1 (Danger Present): Immediate risk of injury or fire; requires urgent attention.
Example of a C1 (Danger Present) observation - Visible signs of thermal effects on shower final cabling connection. Shower circuit wiring isolated and made safe at the clients consumer unit.
C2 (Potentially Dangerous): Less immediate risk but still requires prompt action.
An Example of a C2 observation - Potentially Dangerous Steel wired armoured cabling sheath utilised as the circuit protective conductor (CPC), terminated incorrectly to the earthing terminal of the external socket outlet
C3 (Improvement Recommended): Not unsafe but could be improved to meet current standards.
Example of a C3 (Improvement Recommended) observation - 32a socket damaged with a DIY makeshift cover.
FI (Further Investigation): Indicates that more investigation is needed to determine safety.

For private rental properties, it is a legal requirement to supply a satisfactory EICR to tenants every 5 years or at the start of a new tenancy.
Homeowners may choose to have an EICR every 10 years or when buying/selling a property to ensure safety.
